Deka Chambers offers mini-pupillages as a means both of encouraging talented individuals and of promoting equality, diversity, and fairness of access to the profession. Chambers offers a number of unassessed mini-pupillages each year. Each mini-pupillage will last 2 days in duration. Chambers will aim to assign each participant to civil work for one day and to criminal work for the other. Applicants must be 18 or over to apply.
Due to anticipated demand, we will select applicants on the basis of i) interest in Deka Chambers and its practice areas; ii) interest in a career at the Bar; and iii) persuasiveness and clarity of written communication. Individuals who have previously undertaken a mini-pupillage with Deka Chambers (or either of its prior constituent parts, 9 Gough Chambers or 1 Chancery Lane) will not be eligible for another mini-pupillage. For the successful applicants, we are unable to provide expenses to those participating in our mini pupillage schemes.
The application window for our next mini-pupillage scheme is now open (from Monday the 15th of June) and will close on Monday the 20th of July 2026.
If you would like to apply, please download and complete and application form from here, and send your application to minipupillage@dekachambers.com
Applications will be accepted until 11:59pm on Monday 20th July 2026, and successful candidates will be notified by Friday 11th September 2026. We will then seek to schedule mini pupillages between 1st October 2026 and 29th January 2027.
