Aqeel H Noorali Essay Competition

Deka Chambers organises a legal essay writing competition in memory of dear friend and talented barrister, Aqeel H Noorali.

Aqeel was a talented and dedicated barrister who particularly enjoyed arguing novel points of law.

We want to honour Aqeel’s memory by encouraging the next generation of lawyers to prepare thoughtful, cogent, and persuasive written arguments: a talent Aqeel possessed in abundance.

Applications for the 2024 competition are now open.

The essay title for the 2024 competition is as follows:

“Should children who commit serious crimes such as murder ever be publicly identified?”

There is a 1,000 word limit.

Entrants should be full-time students aged 16–19 years at non-fee paying schools in England and Wales at the time of entry to the competition.

The top prize is £1,000 and a mini-pupillage, and there are also cash prizes for runners-up. The competition is open from 24th June to 16th September 2024.

To enter the competition, and to view the full terms and conditions, please visit the BVL website.
