Roger Hiorns spent his first 10 years in Chambers with a broad common law practice which saw him appear in all types of courts on a daily basis.
For more than 25 years now he has practised exclusively in the fields of personal injury, fatal accident, clinical negligence and professional negligence claims. He now has a wealth of experience in these areas and can return paperwork very quickly.
Roger has particular expertise in industrial disease claims, especially asbestos cases.
Roger wrote and edits a chapter in the practitioners manual “Occupational Illness Litigation”.
Roger advises and represents both Claimants and Defendants in all types of personal cases including road traffic accidents, accidents at work and fatal accidents. Over the years he has been involved in cases involving brain injuries, spinal injuries, cauda equina syndrome, amputations, chronic pain, scarring, loss of sight and every kind of orthopaedic injury.

Roger represented the Claimant who was using an unguarded mincing machine when his dominant right hand became caught in it. His hand had to be amputated at the wrist. Damages were assessed by the High Court at £1.99 million.
Roger acted for the Claimant in a fatal accident claim involving a widower and two children under the age of 10. Extensive claims for past and future loss of earnings and care. Case settled for £1.05 million after provision of a detailed schedule and extensive negotiations.
Roger acted for a serviceman injured at work who was medically discharged from the services with chronic pain and psychological issues.
Roger acted for a lady who was the victim of an assault. A maximum award of £500,000 was achieved less a 20% reduction in respect of the Claimant’s conduct.

Roger acted for a self-employed man whose loss of earnings claim had been valued and presented negligently by the solicitors acting for him.
Roger’s clinical negligence practice is claimant based with an emphasis on delayed diagnosis, negligent investigations and treatment and negligent surgery.
Clinical negligence involving treatment of vulval cancer resulting in the removal of groin nodes and the development of lymphoedema.
Roger acted for a female solicitor in her claim for clinical negligence in respect of a delay in diagnosing her anal carcinoma leading to a permanent colostomy.
