Saleem Khalid is one of the leading senior juniors at the Bar in the field of Construction.

He is the Head of Construction at Deka Chambers.

Saleem specialises in all types of Construction & Professional Negligence actions.

He has developed a considerable knowledge and expertise of complex TCC cases and arbitrations, most recently those involving cladding and building safety defects following the Grenfell disaster; insurance policies; energy; environmental; international/multi-jurisdictional and public/local authority projects.  He also has particular experience in construction related professional indemnity claims, having represented both Claimants and Defendants.

Saleem is a member of the Attorney General’s Panel of Counsel and a part-time judge.

Saleem has for many years achieved a consistent track record of achieving excellent results in litigation for individual clients, insurers, governments/authorities and groups.

He offers advocacy and advice at all stages of a dispute, which is commercially and tactically minded.

Some of his recent reported or confidential cases include:

  • Acting for a number of Claimant Housing Associations in High Court (TCC) claims arising out of defectively designed and installed cladding, which is a fire hazard.
  • Acting for a charities in High Court (TCC) cases where they purchased a number of tall buildings that have now been found to have potentially hazardous safety defects.
  • Advising organisations on their building warranties and liability insurance policies to assess if their policy coverage (TCC).
  • Representing construction professionals in High Court (TCC) proceedings concerning alleged negligent certification and associated legal professionals’ duties relating to property sales.
  • Representing claimants and defendants and their insurers in professional liability and professional conduct High Court (TCC) claims concerning a Silk.
  • Advising central and local authorities on large infrastructure, energy, environmental and health/school projects.
  • Court and ADR advocacy in TCC claims worth seven and eight figures.
  • Professional duty claims concerning planning obligations and parties based overseas.
  • Claims concerning architects and surveyors in the TCC involving large developments, including the use of AI/Computer software.
  • Represented an investment company who purportedly failed to consider the client’s wishes relating to risk when creating a portfolio that was later affected by the global financial crisis.
  • Representing clients in TCC cases concerning alleged supervision, inspection and complex expert issues, as well as preliminary issues on Limitation, scope of duty, and third parties.
  • Advising insurers on their policy coverage against allegations of fraud and non-disclosure and on numerous related quantum and costs specific issues.
  • Contract disputes concerning interpretation of complex clauses in a variety of different agreements and scenarios, including delayed completion, adjudications and sub-contractors.
  • Representing clients in high value litigation based on hospital, school, infrastructure and commercial developments with multi-party and/or multi-jurisdictional issues.
