Nasreen Shah 

Nasreen is an experienced multi-disciplinary barrister. She has a busy practice defending and prosecuting in all aspects of criminal law. Nasreen is regularly instructed in cases involving fraud and money laundering offences, firearms, violent offences, drugs offences and sexual offences. Nasreen’s confident and persuasive advocacy combined with excellent client care, has produced excellent results for her clients.

Nasreen is also instructed by the Metropolitan Police Service in criminal, regulatory and family proceedings. She acts as a legal adviser and counsel in misconduct proceedings. Nasreen has appeared in the High Court Family Division in respect of Disclosure Orders and applications on grounds of public interest immunity. She is often instructed to undertake document reviews on legal professional privilege for inquiries and is instructed as independent counsel to attend and advise on searches and raids.

Nasreen is also regularly instructed by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and Insolvency Service in relation to Company Act offences, Money Laundering Schemes involving transfers across jurisdictions and Forfeitures.

Nasreen also has an international practice, as a member of Moyse & Associates in Luxembourg. In her capacity as Counsel, with a particular expertise in financial and economic crime she is able to expertly represent clients on a domestic and international level.

In addition to her multi-faceted practice as a barrister, Nasreen is a founder and director of Her Bar, a platform designed to supportand promote women at all stages in their careers at the Bar and beyond.

Prior to practicing at the Bar, Nasreen was a legal advisor for the specialist domestic violence non-profit. Nasreen spearheaded the organisation’s work in police law, developed a community outreach program for women suffering domestic abuse, and worked on recommendations to then Domestic Violence Bill, now the DV Act 2021.

In 2018, she worked as a Judicial Assistant to Judge Ksenija Turkovic at the European Court of Human Rights, which included producing a report for the UN Committee Against Torture on violence against women and ECHR case law, working on prominent cases such as Beuze v Belgium [2018] ECHR 382 and use her analytical skills and ability to draft persuasive arguments in Škrlj v Croatia [2019] ECHR 260, examining judicial impartiality.

Nasreen is Public access qualified, and also qualified in Ireland (Call 2022 ) and Luxembourg (Call 2023).
