Lisa is recognised for her ability to put witnesses at ease. She gets to the heart of the issues with experts and provides calm and confident advice. She is instructed in high value cases involving brain and spinal injuries in her own right and as a junior.
Lisa is recognised as a leading junior in the field of clinical negligence. She represents Claimants and Defendants across the full range of clinical negligence work. Her work includes fatal accidents, birth injury cases, secondary victims, delays in diagnosis, spinal injuries and brain injury cases. Her claims range from the lower end of the multi-track to multi-million pound cases requiring management of a number of liability and quantum experts.

Lisa was instructed by the Claimant and was led by Edwards Bishop QC. The case concerned a birth injury case leading to a significant brain injury requiring lifelong care needs.

Brine v North Bristol NHS Trust [2019] HHJ Cotter QC
Lisa represented the Defendant at trial in this cauda equina case. The Claimant alleged negligence in the surgical technique of a laminectomy and failures to recognise signs of cauda equina thereafter. The claim was successfully dismissed in its entirety.

Lofts v North Bristol NHS Trust [2017] HHJ Ambrose
Lisa successfully represented the Defendant at trial. The Claimant alleged that a plastic surgeon had performed hand surgery negligently and caused vascular injury. It was also alleged that the Claimant had developed widespread chronic pain. The claim was dismissed in its entirety.

Saddique v (1) Chief Constable of West Midlands Police (2) MOJ [2020] before HHJ Freeland QC:
Lisa was instructed for the Chief Constable of West Midlands police in this misfeasance claim. It was alleged that the first Defendant’s officers had shared information about the Claimant in bad faith. The source of that information was a police informant. Lisa successfully opposed disclosure application on the grounds of PII and then represented the Chief Constable at trial where the claim was dismissed.

Jeffreys v The Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis [2017] EWHC 1505 (QB) Morris J
Lisa successfully represented the Defendant in this malfeasance jury trial which included a low value claim for personal injuries. Following the dismissal of the claim, Lisa successfully argued for the a proportion of the Defendant’s costs to be paid because, whilst the claim including a claim for personal injury, it was largely a malfeasance claim and CPR 44.16(2)(b) contained a discretion to allow enforcement of costs in appropriate case.

Maguire v Chief Constable of West Midlands Police [2017]
Lisa successfully represented the Defendant at trial. The Claimant sustained significant injuries to his arm from a police dog in the course of his arrest. Further, he alleged that the arresting officer had assaulted him by way of kicking, The claim was dismissed.

Zapello v Chief Constable of Sussex Police [2010] EWCA Civ 1417
Lisa successfully represented the Defendant at trial. The Claimant made allegations of assaults, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution. His claims were dismissed. Thereafter, Lisa also represented the Defendant in the Court of Appeal on a narrow costs point.
Lisa’s practice areas of personal injury, clinical negligence and police law overlap with her Human Rights practice. When acting for public bodies, Lisa is often defending claims which include a claim under the Human Right Act 1998.
Lisa has particular expertise in dealing with:
- Article 3 ‘failure to remove’ claims against Local Authorities;
- Article 3 ‘failure to investigate’ claims against the police;
- Article 2 claims including deaths in police custody, deaths shortly following police custody, when detained for health / mental health purposes;
- Article 8 claims across the range of her practice areas.
- Article 3 and 8 claims in historic sexual abuse cases;
- Limitation argument under the Human Right Act 1998.
