Bill is a third-six pupil at Deka Chambers having previously undertaken a crime and civil pupillage at a common law set on the Western Circuit. He is currently gaining experience across the breadth of chambers’ practice areas, including family law. To that end, Bill has already represented various local authorities in public law care proceedings and is keen to further develop his family practice. Bill is available for instruction across chambers’ practice areas.
During pupillage, Bill attended several County Court hearings including small claims and fast-track trials and contempt proceedings. In criminal law, Bill has prosecuted and defended in both magistrates’ courts and the Crown Court. In the Crown Court, Bill was able to successfully mitigate on behalf of a client thereby avoiding a lengthy custodial sentence.
Prior to undertaking pupillage, Bill attended over a thousand hearings as a County Court advocate gaining experience in a wide range of civil matters including possession (landlord/tenant), small claims hearings (including but not limited to credit hire, RTAs and contractual disputes) and bankruptcy. Bill also completed a stint as employment lawyer at the Hillingdon Law Centre. Bill has completed internships at JUSTICE: as the Kalisher Intern, AMICUS: providing assistance to attorneys representing clients facing the death penalty in Texas, USA and Reprieve: as part of the award-winning Pakistan Death Row Project in collaboration with the City Law School.
Outside of work, Bill has an interest in classical Hindustani music, travelling, and spending time with his family.
Bill has native proficiency in the Punjabi and Urdu languages and is also able to speak formal Arabic.
