Ben Long

Ben accepts instructions across Chambers’ core practice areas, representing both claimants and defendants in a broad range of civil litigation. He has developed a practice with a particular emphasis on personal injury, insurance disputes, fraud, credit hire, and costs.

Ben is an experienced advocate with a busy court practice, regularly appearing in the County Court at trials, fast track and multi-track hearings, as well as interim applications, case management conferences (CMCs), costs and case management conferences (CCMCs), and disposal hearings. He is known for his thorough preparation, pragmatic approach and effective advocacy, with a focus on identifying the key issues in dispute and achieving practical, commercially sensible outcomes for clients.

Alongside his advocacy practice, Ben maintains a substantial paperwork practice. He is regularly instructed to advise on liability, causation, quantum and litigation strategy, and drafts pleadings, statements of case, applications, schedules of loss, counter-schedules and written advices across his areas of expertise. He is accustomed to working on matters from their earliest stages through to trial, providing clear, practical advice throughout the life of a claim.

Ben acts for insurers, businesses and private individuals, and has experience handling matters involving allegations of fraud and fundamental dishonesty, road traffic accidents, employers’ liability, public liability, occupiers’ liability, credit hire and higher-value personal injury claims. He is equally comfortable acting for claimants and defendants and understands the differing commercial and strategic considerations that arise on each side of litigation.

Before coming to the Bar, Ben worked in the city for Citibank UK at their London Bridge office and gained valuable legal experience working closely with solicitors, as in-house counsel, on civil litigation matters. This background has given him a strong appreciation of the practical demands faced by those instructing counsel and enables him to work collaboratively with solicitors to achieve efficient and cost-effective outcomes for clients.

Away from Chambers, Ben enjoys Rowing, is an active member of his local club and still competes at Masters events.
