Anirudh is building a broad practice in civil and public law. His core practice areas include police law, human rights and civil liberties, data protection, personal injury (both domestic and cross border), clinical negligence and commercial law.

Prior to the Bar, Anirudh worked as a judicial assistant to Sir Rupert Jackson and Lady Justice Asplin. He assisted judges with commercial, personal injury and human rights cases. He subsequently worked as a stagiaire at the European Court of Justice and was appointed as a visiting tutor at the London School of Economics.

Recent highlights of Anirudh’s practice include the following:

  • Khera v National Health Service Commissioning Board (ongoing); an appeal concerning a dispute over the court’s jurisdiction.
  • Roberts v Jones [2024] EWHC 290 (KB) and [2024] EWCA Civ 118; an appeal concerning the proper operation of CPR 71 and the slip rule. Anirudh was led by Simon Butler.
  • Lester Corporation Ltd v Rahim [2023] EWHC 1805 (KB); an appeal concerning a non-party costs order and order for indemnity costs. Anirudh acted as sole counsel in the King’s Bench Division.

Away from the Bar, Anirudh enjoys wild swimming, badminton and baking biscuits, cakes and pastries.

Anirudh acts and advises on public and regulatory matters. He has experience of drafting and advising on judicial review, breaches of the Human Rights Act, data protection claims and acting in regulatory hearings. He acts for individuals, regulators and local authorities.

He also has a growing practice in Court of Protection work, and is regularly instructed on S. 21A applications and directions hearings.

Notable Public Law, Regulatory & Court of Protection cases

  • AB v (1) Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, (2) First Tier Tribunal

    Anirudh is acting unled in judicial review proceedings in respect of a claim under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. Namely, whether ignorance of the scheme is a relevant factor when considering exceptional circumstances for a delay in applying.

  • D v A Local Authority

    A claim was brought against a local authority in respect of alleged inaccuracies in social services records. Anirudh represented the local authority, and the claim was struck out.

  • M v NMC

    Regulatory proceedings commenced by the NMC alleging dishonesty and failure to protect a patient’s health and safety. Anirudh acted in a five day trial.

Anirudh has a broad clinical negligence practice. He has acted in a variety of claims, including those involving delayed diagnosis of cancer, fatal accident claims, failures to obtain informed consent and dental negligence. He also has experience in inquests, having recently acted in a multi-day inquest for a private healthcare provider.

    Claim in the High Court alleging chronic pain on account of failure to properly interpret MRI images.

  • A v NHS Trust

    Claim in the High Court alleging delayed diagnosis of cancer.

  • G v A Prison

    Claim alleging surgical negligence made against the management of a private prison.

Anirudh is instructed regularly in civil claims involving the police. He acts in all types of claims, including assault, battery, misfeasance and malicious prosecution claims, claims involving a breach of the ECHR (Articles 3 and 8) and data protection claims.

  • M v A Police Authority

    Ongoing claim raising allegations of assault, battery, misfeasance in public office and malicious prosecution.

  • J v A Police Authority

    Claim raising allegations of a failure to conduct a proper and effective investigation in relation to an allegation of rape.

  • D v A Police Authority

    Claim alleging breach of confidence against the police in relation to the unauthorised disclosure of an informant’s identity.

Anirudh’s practice embraces the breadth of personal injury. He has been instructed in claims involving physical and sexual abuse, sporting injuries, industrial disease, employers’ liability, road traffic accidents and more. He has dealt with claims involving brain injury, fatal accidents, CRPS, deafness, and industrial poisoning.

    An ongoing road traffic accident claim in which the claimant was left with lifelong injuries.

  • B v D Ltd

    An ongoing occupiers’ liability claim concerning complex regional pain syndrome.

  • J v A Local Authority

    Claim alleging historic noise-induced hearing loss.

Anirudh has a busy cross-border and travel practice. He previously worked as a stagiaire at the European Court of Justice, and accordingly is well-versed in retained EU law. Anirudh’s practice spans the breadth of international personal injury. It includes claims against foreign insurers, claims involving the package travel regulations and cross-border clinical negligence.

  • H v A French Insurer

    Anirudh acted in a French Law claim against a foreign insurer. The claim arose out of an accident in a swimming pool.

  • L v A Polish Clinic

    Acting in an ongoing claim against a Polish clinic alleging negligently performed cosmetic surgery.

Anirudh has a growing commercial and property practice. Prior to commencing pupillage, he worked as a research assistant in construction law. He was awarded second place in the Society of Construction Law’s Hudson Prize. During his training, Anirudh gained experience in dealing with claims as diverse as insurance coverage, breach of directors’ duties, and the alleged negligence of mortgage-brokers.
