James Thacker KC and Giles Bedloe reach successful conclusion to Operation Avalion securing 34 year sentence

Following his conviction in February for the kidnap, two counts of rape and torture of a vulnerable young woman, Gagandeep Singh has been sentenced to 28 years’ imprisonment with an additional extended licence of 6 years. He has been recommended for deportation to India. James and Giles, in partnership with the police, supported the traumatised victim through a challenging trial process.

She had become suspicious when asked to deliver a suitcase from Thailand back to the UK in June 2024. She refused, and on her return to the UK she was abducted at Birmingham Airport by masked men and driven to London. She was taken to a house in Hanwell where she was subjected to prolonged torture, including by Singh, who would go on to rape her. The victim demonstrated immense courage in relaying to the jury the instruments used to harm her during her imprisonment that lasted many hours, fearing that she would not get out alive.
