Thom Dyke was instructed by the CPS to prosecute a man accused of a nine-year campaign of rape and sexual abuse against his young daughter. He was convicted after standing trial at the Crown Court at Croydon last September.
Passing a sentence of thirty years’ imprisonment, the judge said that the defendant, who was HIV positive and did not use protection when he committed the rapes showed a “reckless and callous disregard” of his daughter. The judge said that this was “as serious an abuse of trust as it is possible to contemplate”.
The judge went on to find the defendant was dangerous, and observed that “…the fact that your paternal relationship did not inhibit you from committing these offences means that I consider there is a very serious risk that you would commit similar offences against other children you came into contact with, where you would not be constrained by the feelings of shame you should have felt when raping your daughter.”
