Six police officers with Cambridgeshire Police were found to have committed gross misconduct as a result of their participation in a WhatsApp group chat. The group was uncovered following an investigation carried out by Cambridgeshire Police and is one of the largest collective misconduct cases in the force’s history.
Nearly 40,000 messages were sent by members of the group, which were described as reading like “a grotesque carnival of discrimination and abuse”, and involved deeply offensive messages about members of the public and other police officers, as well as jokes about the murder of George Floyd.
Thom was instructed on behalf of Cambridgeshire Police.
