Jake Cummings, a disgraced Police Constable working for the Metropolitan Police, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on 23 September 2025 to an 18-year extended sentence having been found ‘dangerous’ by the learned judge. This comprises of 16 years’ imprisonment with an additional 2 years on licence.
The defendant was a serving police officer as he embarked upon a ‘campaign of abuse’ over the course of 4 1/2 years against three different women unknown to one another and living in different parts of the country. The pattern of abuse was strikingly similar. His controlling, coercive and manipulative behaviour towards each victim was extensive and included constant messaging, surveillance and monitoring with the aid of cameras and telephone applications, isolation from friends and family, verbal abuse, emotional blackmail, and the suggestion that his victims were mentally unwell. During the relationship he photographed two of his victims in a state of undress without their knowledge for his sexual gratification. When each of the three victims split from the defendant he stalked them by sending multiple messages to pressure them to resume the relationship, attended their home and workplaces unannounced, and tracked them. He went on to rape two of his victims.
The defendant was sentenced for 3 offences of Controlling and Coercive behaviour, 2 offences of Voyeurism, 3 offences of Stalking, and 2 offences of Rape. He was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Restraining Order for the rest of his life to protect his victims and prevent further offending upon eventual release. He has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. James Thacker KC leading Brian Reece, instructed by Neil Vaughan and Mike Nix of CPS Thames and Chiltern and the Major Crime Unit for Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Police, prosecuted the defendant for the two rapes in a trial earlier this year where he was unanimously convicted by the jury
