James Thacker KC and Claire Harden-Frost prosecute one of the youngest defendants to appear in the Old Bailey

James Thacker KC and Claire Harden-Frost were instructed to prosecute a girl, now aged 13 years old, for stabbing her mother with a kitchen knife intending to do her really serious harm, attempting to stab two care workers and threatening to kill them.

The girl was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday 29th November 2024 to a total term of 18 months’ custody following her earlier guilty pleas to the offences. In March 2024 the girl, then aged 12 years old, used a knife to threaten and stab her mother causing a wound. Whilst remanded into the care of the local authority the girl, in September 2024, threatened to kill her care workers with a knife and attempted to cause grievous bodily harm intending to do so asserting she intended to stab them.
