Dominique Smith, instructed by Keith Barrett of Fieldfisher Solicitors, represented the family of Emily Lewis in this inquest. Emily suffered fatal injuries when the RIB she was in collided with a buoy in Southampton in August 2020.
During the inquest, the Coroner raised concerns with existing regulations in the maritime industry, as well as the design and operation of the RIB. He recorded a narrative conclusion and described Emily’s death as a “tragedy for society”. The Coroner will proceed to make prevention of future death reports to the Secretary of State for Transport, as well as other agencies.
