On the 7th of February 2022 Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb sentenced David Carrick at the conclusion of a two day sentencing hearing. Carrick was prosecuted by Tom Little KC and Claire Harden-Frost of Deka Chambers.
In her sentencing remarks the Judge praised the women who had come forward to report Carrick stating “These women are not weak or ineffectual. They were victims of your criminal mindset. The malign influence of men like you in positions of power stands in the way of a revolution of women’s dignity. It is remarkable that with one woman being driven to report an allegation against you, despite your position and power, others felt able to act. Even today, courage calls to courage everywhere and its voice cannot be denied.”
The effect of the sentence passed means that Carrick will not be eligible for release until he is 78 at the earliest and only if the Parole Board are satisfied that he does not pose a risk of harm.
The full sentencing remarks can be found here.
