Tenant convicted of murdering his landlords sentenced to life imprisonment

A man who murdered his landlords was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum 33 year tariff.  Daniel Briceno Garcia (46) was renting a room at an address in Stockwell brutally murdered his landlord (60) and landlady (66) who lived at the same address by stabbing both repeatedly in the chest and back.  Evidence suggested that he had become angry at both and was unable to pay the rent on the 1^st of April 2020.  Briceno Garcia accepted being responsible for the deaths but denied murder and suggested through, expert evidence first produced two years later, that he had been suffering from schizophrenia at the time.  The jury convicted him of both murders after a trial at the Central Criminal Court.  The Recorder of London sentenced Briceno Garcia to life imprisonment with a minimum sentence of 33 years imprisonment.  Tom Little QC and Claire Harden-Frost of chambers prosecuted the case.
