In the early morning of 9 November 2016, a tram travelling towards the Sandilands tram stop derailed and overturned on a sharp bend. Of the 70 passengers traveling on the tram at the time, 7 were tragically killed whilst 58 other people injured, some life changing. Given the seriousness of the accident the case has attracted a large amount of media attention and public scrutiny.
