James Thacker prosecutes non-fatal shooting at Central Criminal Court

News

26/06/2016

Following a re-trial at the Central Criminal Court (as the first trial was stopped due to legal reasons) in May 2016, Mohammed Nur was convicted of possessing a modified 8mm calibre blank firing pistol capable of firing projectiles and causing lethal injury.

On 8th May 2014 the defendant discharged the firearm on Deptford High Street in close proximity to members of a rival gang who were chasing him and other members of the public going about their normal business.  The defendant then attempted to discharge the firearm again but the modified projectile jammed in the chamber of the gun.  The case relied upon CCTV, DNA from the firearm and GSR (gunshot residue) from clothing.

The defendant had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed article in April 2015.

He was sentenced by HHJ Rook QC on 23rd June 2016 to a total sentence of 7 years 4 months’ imprisonment.
