Andrew Ritchie QC represents the 17 families affected by the June 2015 Tunisia terrorist attack

At the 3rd pre-inquest review hearing in the High Court today Andrew Ritchie QC, representing the families of 17 of the 30 British citizens who were murdered at Sousse beach, submitted that more information on the security at the Imperial Hotel should be disclosed to HM Coroner by TUI and the Foreign Office.

Ritchie raised the question of whether Her Majesty’s Government should have imposed a duty of candour on TUI to inform holiday makers before taking bookings of the FCO travel advice that there was “a high risk of terrorist attacks” in tourist areas. This was in the knowledge that before the attack TUI failed to make any mention in their holiday brochures (online or paper) of the risk of terrorist attacks in tourist areas in Tunisia.

Ritchie also raised the question of whether the FCO failed to protect tourists after the March 2015 terrorist attack on tourists at the Bardo Museum in Tunis, by failing to “embargo” travel to Sousse until security had been improved.

The 4th pre-inquest hearing will be held on 13th September 2016.
