Solicitor’s claim for damages against police dismissed

News | Wed 16th Sep, 2015

On the 16th September, 2015, following a 4 day trial before HHJ Freeland Q.C. and a reserved judgment, a claim made by a solicitor against the police for wrongful arrest, false imprisonment and assault was dismissed.

The Claimant claimed that the police had dishonestly fabricated the reasons for his arrest which occurred outside his home in Roehampton, South London in 2011. He also claimed that they had deliberately assaulted him and had used excessive force before detaining him for 19 hours before he was brought before a Court.

Edwin Buckett represented the Metropolitan Police Commissioner who defended the claim. He was instructed by Matthew Smith of Plexus (Manchester).
