A woman in her 50s has received £125,000 following settlement of a historic sexual abuse claim. The woman contacted solicitors following publicity surrounding historical child abuse. As a teenager, she engaged in a sexual relationship with a senior member of staff at her secondary school. Following the cessation of the relationship, she endured an early onset into alcoholism and had difficulty forming subsequent relationships. Her education was affected and her lifetime earning potential was diminished.
Tom was instructed to draft the letter of claim. The claim raised complex issues of limitation, causation and quantification of loss of earnings. Liability was denied and proceedings were issued. The case settled following service of proceedings.
